OMEGA unearths the heart of the ocean;
introduces the all-new Seamaster Planet Ocean

Mumbai 10, February 2012 - OMEGA, the prestigious Swiss watch company, during a scintillating soiree today reaffirmed its commitment in bringing forth exemplary timepieces for discerning watch aficionados. As an extension to this resolution OMEGA earlier this evening showcased its awe-inspiring range of Seamaster Planet Ocean watches at J W Marriott, Mumbai.

The Seamaster range of watches that had been on the wrist of many, right from the very early days of ocean exploration was given a new thrust in 2005 with the Planet Ocean range. The series was expressly created to pay homage to Omega's divers watch heritage, while also enhancing the designs with state-of-the-art technology and contemporary styling to create an entirely new collection of modern classic.

Announcing the launch of the Seamaster Planet Ocean, Mr. Jean-Claude Monachon, Vice-president and Head of Product Development, Omega said, ‘OMEGA has always dedicated itself to creating timepieces that integrate innovative technology with stunning design so as to enchant each new generation of watch admirers. The Planet Ocean range has, since 2005, upheld the aesthetic profile and state-of-the-art technology of the original Seamaster line and has been a testament to the brand's legacy.’

As part of its global commitment towards associating with the exploration of the oceans, Omega has commissioned environmental activist, photographer and filmmaker Yann Arthus-Bertrand to produce and direct a film about the Earth's oceans, serving both to remind people of these natural beauties that cover two-thirds of the planet's surface and to raise the awareness of what can be done to protect them.

In awe of the stunning timepieces Abhishek Bachchan, Actor and OMEGA’s Brand Ambassador who was present at the occasion said ‘Seamaster Planet Ocean range is very special to me because of its remarkable looks and style dovetailed with technology splendour. The watch series holds a very high quotient of brilliance which is definitely hard to match.’

Seamaster Planet Ocean series is available in three sizes, 37.50mm, 42.00mm and the large 45.50mm in addition to a 45.50mm chronograph version – all with the distinct style and features of a classic dive watch across OMEGA boutiques and key multi-brand outlets in select cities.

OMEGA was founded in 1848 and is a brand of the Swatch Group, the world’s leading watch manufacturer. For more than 160 years the brand has been synonymous with excellence, innovation and precision. Faithful to its original pioneering spirit, OMEGA continues to make technical and watchmaking history with innovation in areas as diverse as sports timing, cutting-edge technology and design – qualities that led to the conquest of the oceans’ depths and space. The brand has an unparalleled reputation for flawless sports timekeeping including, most notably, at 24 Olympic Games since 1932. OMEGA recently extended its agreement with the International Olympic Committee through 2020.

OMEGA – a legacy of oceanic exploration and advocacy

OMEGA has long been associated with the planet's oceans. In 1932, it released the Marine – the world's first water resistant watch. In the nearly eighty years since, OMEGA has been associated with some of the best-known underwater explorers and oceanographers including Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Charles William Beebe and "Dolphin Man" Jacques Mayol.

When the late Sir Peter Blake, retired from competition as one of the world's most successful sailors, he committed his energies to the protection of his beloved oceans. His Blakexpeditions were organized under the auspices of the United Nations and OMEGA.

GoodPlanet – dedicated to sustainability

GoodPlanet, was founded in 2005 by Arthus-Bertrand with the aim of raising public awareness of environmental issues and sustainable development. It encourages a way of life that is more respectful of the Earth and its inhabitants. It suggests realistic and optimistic solutions, and encourages each individual to take action for the planet.

OMEGA president Stephen Urquhart said that the partnership is a logical one for his brand, saying, "Our legacy includes not only the very first water-resistant watch but close partnerships with some of the most important names in ocean exploration and ecology. This project with GoodPlanet will give us the chance to remind people of the beauty of the oceans and to let address ways to be better stewards of these amazing natural resources which are critical for our common future."
